Hardware is a one-time purchase from the customer's preferred vendor (Amazon, Getic, Teltonika direct, or any electronics distributor). TransitPin does not resell hardware. Capacitor wrapper around the existing PWA codebase. Published on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The core functionality uses the same codebase as the PWA. The native wrapper adds distribution and platform integration - not a rewrite.

Native-Only Features

Features that require platform-native capabilities beyond what a PWA or Capacitor wrapper can provide:

  • Push notifications - Parents receive alerts when the bus is approaching, when delays occur, and when their child boards or exits. This is the single most-requested parent feature and cannot be done reliably from a PWA.
  • Offline mode - Drivers cache route data and log GPS waypoints locally when outside cell coverage (common on rural routes). Syncs automatically when back online. Critical for districts with partial cell coverage.
  • Background location - Driver GPS tracking continues when the phone is locked. iOS aggressively suspends background web apps; native is required for reliable background location on iPhones.
